Toni Seppälä

Toni Seppälä, MD, PhD, is Professor of Cancer Research at Tampere University and Chief Physician at Tampere University Hospital, where he leads the development of personalised cancer care. A gastrointestinal surgeon by training, his research focuses particularly on colorectal and hereditary cancers, including Lynch syndrome, and on advancing precision medicine through cancer biomarkers, genomics, patient-derived organoids and cell-free DNA.
He completed a research fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Johns Hopkins University and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. Professor Seppälä leads research groups in Tampere and Helsinki and has served as Chair of the European Hereditary Tumour Group since 2025.
